Modern Foreign Language Celebration week has swept the academy, with a range of challenges for students, and events to get involved in. Each day has had a different language theme, from Spanish on Monday, to Chinese on Thursday and French today. Cucina have reflected this in their menus, and flags have brought colour to the market place.
Students had to guess the flags, dress in national costume, and complete the bi-lingual teachers challenge. There were also tongue twisters in the daily language, and updates about the weather. Language learning has such an important role to play in teaching students about a range of cultures, and helping them understand more about our place in the world. Spanish, French and Mandarin go from strength to strength here, and it is great to see the whole community celebrate this. There will be more subject celebration weeks throughout the year.
The Academy First Eleven football team made their debut this week, and we were delighted to have 2 representatives in the District team as well. With so many schools in the area, winning a place in this team is an impressive achievement.
Students have the chance to take part in the first House Event next week, in the Tug of War competition. There are teams from each House in each year group, with keen competition expected. This was also the case at staff badminton on Monday night!
On Wednesday next week we look forward to welcoming to the academy parents of anyone new to the school this term in Year 7 or any other year group. This is a chance to meet your child's Form Tutor, who they see every day, and ask any 'settling in' questions. All year groups have an academic parents evening later in the year when you can meet all your child's subject teachers.
