This week we were delighted to welcome 1,700 visitors to our annual Open Evening. Choosing a Secondary School is such an important decision and for me it is a really exciting evening, as young people start to see the options that are available to them, and how much they can achieve with the right support.
The academy was certainly buzzing all evening, with Sixth Form helpers serving canapes in the Market Place, students demonstrating sports, science and catering and many more besides. Students involved in the stunning performance of 'Grease' had the chance for one final song, as an introduction to presentations from our Head Students, Year 7 students and me. I wrote about the show in the blog last summer, and even the very positive comments on Facebook don't do it justice. Offering more children the chance to be involved in productions of this calibre by joining the academy shows the 'Proud to Belong' ethos so well.
Open Evening reminds me of all the reasons I am so proud of the school; how we consistently outperform national averages in exam results, how a third of our leavers this year went on to Russell Group universities, and how in surveys every single respondent with a child in Year 7 has said they would recommend The Bushey Academy to others.
Of course Open Evening was not the only thing happening in the academy this week. Sixth Form students attended a 'Learn2Live' community event with contributions from the police and fire services. House music auditions were extended by a day due to the level of interest from the students. More sports trials took place, and the application deadline for House leadership posts is fast approaching.
I look forward to bringing you news next week of our first Modern Languages Celebration week which starts on Monday. Cucina are supporting it, so students will be sampling world cuisine, and honing their language skills with activities in Form time and around the school.
