Celebrating Success

The annual Celebration of Success event took place this week, to a packed audience in the Cube theatre. Student success in all year groups and all subjects were celebrated, with special awards presented by the school Trustees and the Lead Sponsor David Meller. The guest speaker was Oliver Dowden, who is the Prime Minister's Deputy Chief of Staff and conservative candidate for Hertsmere at the forthcoming General Election. He has visited the school twice before, and talked about his experiences at Number 10; working with the Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Boris Johnson, and the hospitality of Barack Obama at the White House. Students were given an insight into his career path, and the importance of working hard at school to achieve your goals.

Hard work was also high on the list for Double BMX World Champion Mike Mullen, who visited the academy this week as part of the Sky Sports 'Living for Sport' programme. He spend the day with some of our Gifted and Talented athletes teaching them new skills, and working on managing pressure in competitive situations. The students are showing off some of their tricks in the sports hall  below!

Our PSHCE lessons this half term are focused on the important issue of E-safety. We were pleased to welcome the band 'In Hindsight' to the Grand Hall, below, to provide a different angle on how to ensure you are using technology in a safe and secure manner.
