On Thursday night the Science Department hosted a stargazing event in conjunction with the Astrophysics Department of the University of Hertfordshire. Year 7 students and their parents enjoyed a range of events including the inflatable planetarium in the Grand Hall, looking at neighbouring planets through the telescopes in the Quad and enjoying talks and workshops from university lecturers and staff. The Megalab housed a series of different experiments on exoplanets and infra-red radiation and a fascinating time was had by all.
Marconi's half-term in charge of fund raising for the academy charity is going strong, with a Just Dance lunch time event and House Captains and other students selling sweets for this good cause. Remember, the House Charity competition earns points for the Meller Cup and, much more importantly, raises funds for our chosen charity of the year, DRUM.
Thank you to all parents of who attended the Year 11 parent consultation evening last week. I am sure this collaboration will help your children enormously as we head towards the GCSEs. Please remember the compulsory after school event for all Year 11 students on Monday 8 February, from 3.30-5.00pm, when Elevate Education will work with students on effectively planning revision. Parents of Year 11 students are strongly encouraged to come along to the session that follows this on the same evening, from 6.00-7.30pm, which focuses on what you can do to help support your child with the GCSE preparation. These last few weeks can make all the difference, and together I am confident we can achieve some outstanding results this summer.
