Working hard

I enjoyed welcoming students and colleagues back to the academy after half term. Those on the trip to Malaga reported having an excellent time, and I hope everyone had a refreshing and restful holiday wherever you were and whatever you were doing.

Members of our sixth form had particularly engaging experiences over the holiday on work placements. We were pleased to make the most of our relationship through the Meller Educational Trust with 'Access', who provided highly sought after placements such as at Marie Claire, the Mail on Sunday, Twitter and others. Students said they learned a great deal, and returned to school even more focused on their studies as a result.

Future options were very much on the minds of our Year 11 students who attended the Sixth Form open event this week. It was our highest attended Sixth Form event ever, with lots of interest from external applicants, as well as our own students. Anyone interested in joining our Sixth Form next year should ensure their application is submitted by Friday 11th December.

Our PE students continue to benefit from our relationship with England Rugby and the RFU. They have provided us with specialist coaches to work with Year 7 and 8 students in their PE lessons, as well as with the Year 7 rugby club after school on a Monday. Our students' rugby season starts in the new year, by which point they should be very well prepared.

Assembly and PSHCE this week has been dedicated to firework safety. I hope you enjoy a safe and exciting firework display this weekend if you attend one.
