Making a Difference

An important part of the 'Proud to Belong' ethos at the academy is our commitment to charity. Last year we raised over £5,000 for our two academy charities, Make a Wish and Great Ormond Street Hospital. We were pleased to receive the certificates below in recognition of the hard work of the students and the whole community.

This year the students nominated a shortlist of charities through their form groups, from which DRUM  (Disability Recreation Unity Movement) was chosen. Drum is a small local charity, who provide day and support services to adults with physical or sensory disabilities. More information is available if anyone would like to find out more: http://www.drum.btck.co.uk/

My colleagues and I visit lessons every week to see how students are progressing. It enables us to ensure students are on track for success, and enjoying their lessons. Science is always a popular subject, and students are particularly engaged with practical experiments in our Megalab. Here students are testing the reactivity of different elements.

I was pleased to welcome parents to the academy for a couple of events this week; a session for parents of students in Years 10 and 11, as well as our first Parent Forum of the year. Topics included exam results, stretching able students, assessment, setting and reports. Feedback from both events was very positive, and I look forward to welcoming more people to our next events.
