Technical reading

I am pleased to start by revealing the identities of the secret readers from last week. They are Miss Maddock, a member of our English department reading 'Atonement', and Mr. Goss, one of our Behaviour and Attainment Mentors reading 'The Kite Runner'. Reading week has now come to a close, but not before the much anticipated visit of author Dan Freedman, who came to school to talk to Year 7 about his series of books following the football career of Jamie Johnson.

Dan started his career as a football journalist, and wowed the audience with his stories of interviewing the likes of Alex Ferguson, Steven Gerrard, Ronaldo and Messi, which served as excellent inspiration for his fiction books. He wrote about visiting the school on his website:  http://www.danfreedman.co.uk/for-world-book-week-dan-will-be-visiting/

This week we were pleased to host the annual Rotary Technology Tournament, including visits by Nick Boles MP, Minister of State for Skills and Equality, with Richard Harrington our local MP, and a range of local dignitaries. Students were challenged to execute some complex engineering to design and build a way of transporting a load safely across a river.
