Full time

Another characteristic week for students and staff at The Bushey Academy: trips, assemblies, encouraging academic results and house competitions to keep everyone busy!

Year 13 A Level Literature students went to see 'Macbeth' at the West End's Ambassador's Theatre. Macbeth is a part of the A2 examination, and seeing the performance brought to life on stage with such colour and pace was a wonderful experience. It led to lots of questions from the students, and will undoubtedly enrich their understanding of the play.

In assembly this week students heard about Debate Mate, one of our many after school activities that count towards the Principal's Challenge. I wrote about the Principal's Challenge a couple of weeks ago in this blog. Debate Mate is a nationwide organisation that organises debating mentors from top universities to visit schools and help inspire students to win their arguments. We have a thriving Debate Mate group on Mondays after school. They are preparing for a forthcoming trip to the House of Commons to put their skills to the test against other schools in this iconic venue.

Year 11 students this week received the results of their most recent Maths mock examinations. Such exams give students a really good rehearsal for the real thing, and help teachers ensure everyone is on top of all their topics. Whilst we are never complacent, the results have given the Maths team an excellent indication that the run of 5 years of rising results will be extended to 6.

This week table tennis came to the fore as the House competition for Years 7 and 8. There is a history of success at national level at the academy, so a keenly contested competition was held, with Whittle emerging on top. Congratulations to them, as well as the Year 10 boys football team who last night reached the quarter finals of the County Cup with a hard fought victory.

With contributions from the arts, academia and sports, it has been a full week, as you would expect of our community.
